I remember being in school and being so excited for when I would get to dress up for work every day. I was (am) one those people who enjoys getting dressed and putting together outfits. But working a 9-5, five days a week, sometimes your wardrobe can get a little tedious. I am lucky to have a an extensive amount of clothes and the option to dress up or down on almost any given day. I work in a government library and our dress code is generally business casual. We can wear blue denim on Fridays but for the majority of the week it is preferred that we wear dressier outfits. As a girl who loves denim and is inspired by streetwear, this can get a little challenging.
Anyone who has seen my Pinterest knows that how much I love jeans. For the most part I can get away with wearing darker denim if I pair it with something more more business formal but I wanted to give you all some ideas on how to dress for work when you can not wear denim on the daily. Here are five outfits that get a little creative with the every day work wardrobe. Mixing in some street style with office style, I put together some looks that you could wear to office or out and about town. This look is probably the most office friendly out of all of them. Trousers and a blouse are nothing new but modernizing the silhouette really amps up this look. High waisted wide leg crops are all over the street style blogs, they will lengthen your legs and define your waist. Instead of buttoning up my blouse, I opted to criss cross tuck it in. Depending on your office vibe this can be made more conservative by strategically pinning the blouse in place but when you leave for happy hour it adds a little something extra. Pair it all with some beautiful pumps and you’re good to go. I love these almond toe pumps I have had for years. They have a patent croc toe cap and the heel is absolutely gorgeous!Longline blazers forever! I love blazers and I love the long line silhouette. The menswear trend is absolutely something I am on board for. Long line blazers have been embraced by designers as well as more affordable fashion retailers. They have been a lasting trend for over the past year. Usually I pair them with denim but added to a classic little black dress I think it adds something totally unique for the office. The femininity of the dress neutralizes the masculinity of the blazer. Throw some sheer tights and patent rocker boots into the mix for a subtle dose of sexy.Cher Horowitz eat your heart out! I feel like every time a plaid mini skirt is involved in anything you get Clueless vibes. These were last year’s Birthday Boots and to be honest I do not wear them enough. I have a hard time keeping them from slipping down, skinny calves and all. But they look really good in a photo! I’ve seen a lot cardigans worn alone as a shirt lately and while it is not a trend that everyone can agree on, I really like it. This one is embellished with pearls and is very ladylike. But paired with the over the knee boots I think it brings in the right amount class and edge. My Pinterest has so many images of cream on white, white on white, or cream on cream for a colder season. I can think it was safe to say that I was really inspired by winter whites this year. White denim has finally been liberated from the summer months and should be worn as often as possible. Ive never owned a pair of white jeans before this pair. I love that they are a cropped straight leg with higher waist. In the past skinny white jeans were popular but they just did not work for me. I paired them with a classic cream cable knit and my favorite pair of ankle boots.I saved this one for last. It’s kind of more of a Friday night vibe and maybe with a different pair of shoes it would be fine in a more conservative office but I just loved this look. Another longline office appropriate blazer, maybe for daytime you could wear it with a nice blouse but for happy hour wear it on its own. I paired it with these slim black cropped jeans. I love cropped pants If you couldn’t tell. They work with well with my height. The shoes are also great to take you to happy hour, they are so simple but makes the outfit really come together. This outfit is one of those where I paired denim (all be it not blue) with other dressier pieces to take it from casual to a more polished look.
With Spring seeming to be right around the corner, it is easy to get into a style rut right about now. We tend to get bored with our wardrobes mid winter and start dreaming about warmer days. I hope this post inspired you to remix some things that might have already been in your closet and get creative with your personal style at the office. As someone who works full time I know you can never have too many sources of new outfit ideas. For even more outfit inspiration check out my Pinterest boards!
